Land Acknowledgement
The Twin Cities Balboa Connection honors and recognizes that the art form we take part in, and the place where we work, both have legacies. Minnesota is the historical and current home of seven Anishinaabe reservations and four Dakota communities. We are grateful for their ongoing contributions in stewarding our home and land in innumerable ways. We invite you to learn more about that history with us, as well as the vibrant indigenous arts and cultural offerings here in the Twin Cities. Here are some recommendations to deepen your relationship to our home and the people who live here:

Black American Culture Statement
Jazz music and the dances that grew with it have histories that are inseparable from Black culture and the ongoing legacy of white supremacy in this country. Our joy in Balboa is enriched when we remember the pioneers, champions, and tradition-keepers who have come before us. We would not be here today without their talents, time, and resilience. We hope our work can deepen the appreciation of Black American culture and Black history. Whether you’re a local dancer or visiting from out of town, we recommend you take some time to visit some of these Black-owned businesses or contribute to a related organization.
