The Pick-A-Rib Three

The Saturday evening dance will feature this phenomenal combo!

The Clarinet Trio. Benny Goodman led the most famous of these trios with Teddy Wilson and Gene Krupa, but all the famed clarinetists at one time or another tried the form. Twin Cities clarinetist Tony Balluff and drummer Dave Michael from Southside Aces, along with the inimitable pianist Rick Carlson, have been exploring this rich repertoire since 2017. You'll be submerged in 1920s Decatur Street in New Orleans, 1930s New York penthouse parties, and 1940s Los Angeles jazz clubs. The trio adds special guest, string bassist Josh Granowski, for that little bit extra!

    Brew Davis calls Minneapolis their home city, and is thrilled you are here for MinneBal! Brew is a local drag artist who has loved to dance since they were young, but came into Lindy hop in 2023. They love all kinds of movement, including contemporary, Ceili dancing, soul line dancing, and even a queer salsa night. Brew is passionate about trans inclusive dance spaces and loves cheering loudly for any and all comps.

  • DJ: Sam Zorich (She/Her)

    π’πšπ¦ π™π¨π«π’πœπ‘ is thrilled to be part of the DJ team at MinneBal! She began dancing in college, but fell in love with swing era and later jazz music in middle school when she started playing saxophone. Since then, she has DJd at home in Chicago and at regional balboa and lindy hop events around the Midwest. While she's not much of a musician these days, she loves to highlight the saxophone while playing music that makes people get on the floor and stay there!

  • DJ: Mandy Kruse (She/Her)

    Mandy Kruse is a swing DJ with a love for fast feet and vintage beats. She specializes in music for Balboa and Collegiate Shag. Mandy has been spinning occasionally at her hometown Chicago’s Wonderful Wednesdays social. Her sets are inspired by legends like Charlie Barnet and Billie Holiday, along with modern masters like Jonathan Doyle. Whatever your flavor, she aims to keep the energy high and the music just right for every step.
